01244 539300What Is a Low Loader and When Do You Need One?
A low loader is a trailer with a lowered deck and hydraulic loading ramps, so plant and machinery can be driven straight on rather than lifted. Excavators, telehandlers, tracked plant and construction machinery that cannot go on a standard flatbed go on a low loader. The lower deck height keeps the overall load within height restrictions and makes loading safer and faster on site. For plant transport across North Wales, a low loader is almost always the right vehicle.
We have run low loaders across North Wales and the UK since 1989. Our trailers are STGO-rated for heavy and oversize loads, our step extenders take the deck out to 19.6 metres, and our extendable flatbed reaches 21 metres for the longest loads. Where a move requires permits, route surveys or police notification, we handle it. You deal directly with the family that runs the business, get a straight price, and one team sees the job through from first call to final sign-off.
What Our Low Loaders Carry
Our low loader fleet handles the heavy, the oversized and the awkward. If it drives, rolls or needs ramps to load, this is the service.
Construction Plant
Excavators, tracked dumpers, rollers and site machinery driven straight on via hydraulic ramps and transported to site, no crane required for loading.
Telehandlers and Forklifts
Self-propelled wheeled plant that cannot go on a curtainsider, driven on, secured, and delivered to your yard or site.
Industrial and Factory Plant
Large static machinery, presses, fabrications and industrial equipment requiring a low deck and ramps for loading, suited to factory relocations and plant moves.
Abnormal and Oversized Loads
Loads exceeding standard dimensions transported under STGO with full permit management, route surveys and police notification where required. See our Abnormal Loads page.
Agricultural Machinery
Combines, balers, tractors and large farm machinery transported between farms, depots and shows.
One-Off and Specialist Moves
If it needs a low loader, send the dimensions, weight and both addresses and we will confirm the right trailer and a fixed price.
How Low Loader Transport Works
From the first call to the load delivered, here is how a job runs.
Tell Us About the Load
Call or send an enquiry with what is moving, the weight and dimensions, both addresses, and the dates. Photos of the load and site access help us send the right trailer.
We Price It and Book It In
One clear price for collection, transport and delivery, with permits factored in where needed and no hidden extras. Once you are happy, it is booked and confirmed.
We Load, Transport and Deliver
Wheeled and tracked plant drives straight on via the hydraulic ramps. Static loads are craned or forklift loaded by your team. Once secured, we transport and deliver to your site.
Low Loader, Flatbed, or HIAB?
Not sure which one your job actually needs? Here is the short version.
Low Loader
A low loader suits heavy wheeled or tracked plant that needs to be driven on via the ramps, the kind of machinery a standard flatbed cannot take.
Flatbed
A flatbed suits lighter open loads that can be crane or forklift loaded, such as steel, timber and building materials.
HIAB
A HIAB suits loads that need craning on and off, especially to sites with no loading equipment. See our HIAB Hire page.
For heavy plant and machinery in North Wales, a low loader is almost always the right answer. If you are unsure, call and we will tell you in one minute.
Our Low Loader Trailers and Capacities
Our low loader fleet covers the full range of plant and machinery transport. The step extenders take the deck to 19.6 metres and the extendable flatbed reaches 21 metres for the longest indivisible loads. All trailers are STGO-rated and 2.5 metres wide. Permit management included: where a move exceeds standard legal limits we notify the relevant authorities, manage route surveys, and handle police notifications before the vehicle moves.

What Our Customers Say
Our Low Loader Fleet
Our drivers are CPC qualified and ADR certified for dangerous goods, and experienced with STGO loads. Our low loaders and step extenders are STGO-rated, and every vehicle runs live tracking.
- 3-axle
- 13.6m deck
- Hydraulic ramps
- STGO-rated, rear steer
Our standard low loader drives wheeled and tracked plant straight on via the hydraulic ramps, with no crane required for loading. The lower deck height keeps tall loads within height restrictions and makes loading faster and safer on site.
It is suited to excavators, tracked dumpers, telehandlers, rollers and most construction plant. Built on a three-axle, 13.6 metre deck with rear steer and an STGO rating, it is the standard choice for the majority of plant and machinery moves across North Wales and the UK.
- 3-axle
- 13.6m extending to 19.6m
- STGO-rated
- Rear steer
The step extender runs a 13.6 metre standard deck that extends to 19.6 metres, with the step extension fitted on site before loading. That extra deck length gives room for loads that overhang a standard trailer, so it suits longer plant, structural sections, and loads where length rather than weight is the limiting factor.
The three-axle trailer is STGO-rated with rear steer to keep the extended length manoeuvrable on the road and on site. Where the extended length triggers STGO or abnormal load requirements, we manage the permits, route surveys and notifications before the vehicle moves.
- 3-axle
- 13.6m extending to 21m
- Open deck
- Crane and forklift access
The extendable flatbed extends from 13.6 metres to 21 metres, making it the longest trailer in our fleet. It is built for the longest indivisible loads, where even a step extender is not enough.
The open deck gives unrestricted loading from the sides as well as the rear, with full crane and forklift access from any side. That suits structural steelwork, long fabrications and oversized plant that cannot go on a stepped trailer. As a fully open three-axle trailer it is loaded by crane or forklift rather than driven on.
Low Loader Transport FAQs
Can't find what you're looking for? Give us a call, we're happy to help.
01244 539300Wheeled and tracked plant including excavators, dumpers and telehandlers, heavy machinery, agricultural equipment, large static plant, and any load too heavy, wide or tall for a standard flatbed. If it drives on via ramps or needs a low deck for height clearance, a low loader is the right choice.
Wheeled and tracked plant drives straight on via the hydraulic loading ramps at the rear. Static loads that cannot be driven on are loaded by crane or forklift at the collection point by the customer or their team. Our driver secures the load before departure.
It depends on the weight and dimensions. Standard loads within legal limits need no permits. Loads exceeding those limits are classed as STGO or abnormal and require permits, route surveys and in some cases police notification. We manage all of this when it applies and the cost is included in your quote.
Special Types General Order. It covers loads that exceed standard legal weight or dimension limits. Our low loader trailers are STGO-rated so we can carry heavier and larger loads than a standard trailer. If your load triggers STGO we handle the paperwork.
Each job is priced on the load, the trailer required, both locations and the date. There are no hidden extras. Call 01244 539300 or use the enquiry form and we will come back with a fixed price.

Yes. Where loads exceed standard legal limits we manage the move as an abnormal load with STGO permits, route surveys and police notification where required. See our Abnormal Loads page for more detail.
